Fort Street Studio’s unique carpets are exclusively hand-knotted using the finest yarns, such as Dandong wild silk, Tibetan wool and Thai silk. Created by a couple of New York artists, these carpets are real artworks: sophisticated and luxurious, they feature abstract designs in their distinctive painterliness, that subtly enhances the evocative motifs. Contemporary refined carpets that work well in all decor styles, be it modern, eclectic or traditional.
Fort Street Studio’s signature collection of exquisite wild silk hand-knotted carpets is crafted using Dandong silk, a natural fiber selected for its luxurious texture, softness, and its durability, since it is made by silkworm living in the endure harsher climates and conditions, from the wild, in oak forests in Northern China. Its matte luster effect is perfect to interpretate the painterly watercolor designs of the Studio. Wool carpets – often, with the addition of a bit of cultivated silk for an extra touch of luxury- maintain the highest hand-made quality standards: crafted according to time treasured Persian and Tibetan hand-knotting techniques, they are a symphony of texture, design, intricate hand cutting and subtle coloring, where in some cases the design motif is created by a change in weaving texture or pile heigh.
Watercolor designs can be accented with a hint of shimmer, as the mottled abrash of wool is juxtaposed against glistening cultivated silk. Thai silk -world famous for its luminosity and luster- is Fort Street Studio’s newest material introduction. These carpets are entirely flat-woven of multi-ply, hand-reeled silk in an antique kelim weave. This hand-crafted product is unique to this one-village factory in Northern Thailand, and exclusive to Fort Street Studio.
